Guests will usually receive a welcome box of fresh eggs and/or home grown produce, and delicious rare breed meat can be purchased from the owners. Other treats to complete the country holiday culinary experience include the weekly deliveries of fresh fish from Ferry Fish, and the freshest lobster to order direct from the fisherman.

Also available for delivery to the cottage are the very latest in mountain bike gear for daily or weekly hire. There are numerous excellent trails both on and off road in these parts, for all levels. Other activities include sea and salmon fishing, walking the Galloway Hills and the coastal routes, tennis or bowling in the village itself, and of course there is always swimming in the heated open-air pool or set up a game of croquet or badminton on the old tennis lawn if you don't want to stray far from the comforts of your beautiful holiday cottage.

Pavilion Cottage is a haven for all seasons, and has delighted many a weary soul looking for a rest and relaxation in the low season. With the peace and tranquilly of this lovely setting, even in the cold weather and pouring rain, guests can enjoy the view of the garden and birdlife from the cosy cottage. With its wood burning stove and tasteful decor, including travertine stone floors with under floor heating, oil paintings by one of Galloway's best known contemporary painters, Davy Brown and other personal touches you very quickly feel at home.

And for celebrations it is a perfect setting for Christmas and Hogmanay (the Scots' celebration of New Year). Pavilion Cottage easily seats 10 and there is plenty of room for an eightsome reel. The Bladnoch distillery only 7 miles away bottles a fine rare dram aged in a rum cask, to stock up with for first footing.

Owners Alex and Roy Walter are usually available to welcome you and make sure you have everything you need. Fresh flowers from the garden adorn the table in the dining area, and a small library of books, CDs and games will help to keep you entertained on days when you choose to stay home. A copy of Hugh Fearnley Wittingstall's River Cottage Cookbook is on hand by the faithful old Rayburn to help you make the most of the local ingredients.
