Pavilion Cottage sits within the walled garden of
Garlieston House on the Galloway House Estate, former home to the Earls
of Galloway.
The accommodation:
The spacious garden room with large dining area and window seats,
extends the living area, providing flexible
living space with the double doors opening to the
walled garden for al fresco dining. The living room is equipped with a wood burning stove, sofa bed ,
TV/video and stereo. An open staircase leads to a galleried landing
giving access to two cosy loft rooms with single beds in the eaves. One of the two ground floor bedrooms has
a double bed, the other a single with comfortable pull out for twin or
double and with direct access to the garden. The
kitchen is fitted with fridge-freezer, Rayburn stove, combination microwave/convection
oven/grill, electric kettle and
coffee maker and two ring electric hob. In the bathroom is a bath with shower over, WC
and washbasin. The building has underfloor heating throughout the ground
floor.
Telephone, internet and fax facilities are available. All linen, bath towels,
tea towels and duvets are provided. Travel cot and high chair are
available. Garden furniture and barbeque also available, and bicycles
may be available on request.
The washing machine is in an adjacent outbuilding, with nearby drying area.
There is also a wet room with wash basin, shower and loo adjacent to the
swimming pool, which Pavilion Cottage guests are welcome to use.
Outside:
The walled garden offers a large lawned area with mature shrubs and
trees, herbaceous borders, and an
open air swimming pool. Beyond the walled garden is a woodland and
kitchen garden, an orchard and a paddock with rare breed sheep, Indian
runner ducks and hens.
Nearby Rigg Bay has a safe secluded sandy beach within a 5-minute walk,
and Galloway House Gardens, which surround the property, are open to the
public between March and October.
The local area:
Just over a mile away in Garlieston village, the Harbour Inn serves
lunch and dinner. The Harbour Stores and post office both open daily for
essentials. Additional shops at Whithorn, Wigtown (Scotland's National
Book Town) and Newton Stewart are easily reached. Also in the village
there are two tennis courts (racquets and balls available for hire), a children’s play park and a bowling green.
The Machars cycle route is very popular in this area, and if you don't
have space to bring your own bikes, quality hire bikes and all the
gear can be delivered to your cottage for around £40 each a week for
adults and children.
