The literary festivals offer the visitor talks and book signings by some great names. Past visitors include Kate Adie and Katie Morag, Martin Bell and George Galloway, well loved Scottish cookery writer Clare MacDonald and fiction writer Andrew Greig. Garlieston is often warmer and usually has less rain than Newton Stewart because it is right on the coast, but is only 25 minutes drive from Newton Stewart. If you have keen walkers and mountain bikers in your party Newton Stewart is close to the Galloway Hills and Forest Park.
