Garroch Glen: For beautiful guided walks and rides on the Garroch Estate; full of natural and landscaped features, ancient history and sights of special scientific interest. Eagles, red squirrels and red kites have all been seen on this estate. A thoroughly entertaining and educational experience with a really fun guide. Order a picnic or take your own

Galloway Falconry: Hands-on falconry in stunning Galloway countryside. Courses and falconry walks for all levels from 10 years old and up.

Wigtown Booktown: Just 12 miles from Carsebuie is a book lovers treat. Here you will find second hand and antiquarian books on just about every topic as well as new books by Wigtown's many small publishers including books on smuggling and local history. From classic children's books and old favourites to first edition collectibles, there is bound to be something for everyone. The literary festivals offer the visitor talks and book signings by some great names. Past visitors include Kate Adie and Katie Morag, Martin Bell and George Galloway, well loved Scottish cookery writer Clare MacDonald and fiction writer Andrew Greig. The 2009 annual literary festival takes place between 25 Sept and 4 October. Click on the link for further details.

BBC Weather for Newton Stewart area. Garlieston is often warmer and usually has less rain than Newton Stewart because it is right on the coast, but is only 25 minutes drive from Newton Stewart. If you have keen walkers and mountain bikers in your party Newton Stewart is close to the Galloway Hills and Forest Park.
